I’m not sure we’ve met before, but my name is Satpreet Kahlon. I am a talented and accomplished visual artist who is downright struggling to find a studio space in Seattle. I’ve been looking at Spacefinder for the past 6 months, sizeable and relatively affordable have talked to my contacts, been on Craigslist, etc, etc, and I currently have ab to no avail.
I currenty have about 100sq ft in a shared space in Central District for about $200, which is fine, but it is not enough room, and even though I have a budget of about $400, I can’t seem to find but it is just not enough room, and it is in a building where I am the only PoC, and I am so tired of this scenario.
Is there anything you can do to help me out? I would love to start a shared space that is mostly PoC, and I know of a few PoC who are looking — I would love to work on something like this with you.
I don’t know. My work is basically stalled right now because I don’t have the space to create, and the space that I do have is a space full of well-meaning people who are ultimately white and microaggresso never remember my name and confuse me with other Indian people they know and I just can’t anymore.

erin Hey! So what are you doing for studio space right now?
I am basically at my wit’s end. I’m in a space in Central District — but it’s a shared space with three other women and I only have about 100 sq ft of it which does not work for me, and the other women are more crafters than contemporary artists and I just… ugh they are so nice but like… one of them is an older white woman named Binky who keeps calling me Sigfreet? and people from the building keep mixing me up with other Indian people they know (“Oh hi! Didn’t we meet at such and such thing? You’re Davy’s friend!”) and I just can’t.
